Beginner’s Guide to Essential Oils & Natural Aromas

Today we’re going to be talking all things essential oils! I’ve created this beginner’s guide to essential oils and natural aromas because I know just how overwhelming the journey to perfecting your essential oil collection can be. Even professional aromatherapists started somewhere and I wish I’d had a guide like this to help me kickstart my aromatherapy goals in the very beginning.

I could go on and on all day about the health benefits of essential oils and the marvellous value they can bring to people’s lives, however, I’ve narrowed this guide down to a few of the main things you need to know about essential oils and aromatherapy.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are oils that have been infused with aromatic plant extracts to create beautiful, natural, herbal scents, some with amazing holistic health properties.

It’s important to know how your essential oils are made, especially if you intend on using them for medicinal purposes. Essential oils that have been created by chemical means are not considered true essential oils and may not provide the expected health benefits.

How to use essential oils

Essential oils and essential oil blends can be used in a number of ways. It all depends on how creative you want to get!

Essential oils are commonly put to use by inhaling, either with an essential oil diffuser, an essential oil burner or by other means of aromatherapy accessories. They produce gorgeous scents, along with antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties, so it makes sense to breathe in deeply and let their effects wash over your body.

You can also use essential oils directly on your skin; however, it is important to check the potency and dilute as required because some aromatherapy oils may cause a reaction to certain types of skin.

How to store essential oils

Essential oils come in liquid form, so the best way to store them is in a glass bottle. Generally, people who use essential oils to treat health issues, such as headache or insomnia, will store their essential oil blends in small glass bottles with roller tops for easy application. The small size allows for convenient transportation in a handbag, gym bag or backpack.

In saying that, there are many, many essential oil storage options available to you including spray bottles and stopper bottles.

Now, you’ll also need somewhere to store your bottles as your collection grows. Whether that be a wooden essential oil storage box, a soft travel sized essential oil carry case or a stylish essential oil pouch, you’ll never be lost for choice.

Like I said, I could on all day about the benefits of essential oils and how to use them, but we’ve got plenty more blog posts to come. Make sure you stick around and subscribe to updates, so you don’t miss out on any future posts.
