What Are Essential Oils? – Natural Aromas

What Are Essential Oils?

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the essence, the very heart and soul of plants and their varying biological components. Basically, they're the hidden oils inside plants - a gift from Mother Nature - that we extract, distill and transform into natural healing remedies. Lavender, geranium and peppermint are all very popular plants that lend us their beautiful essential oils.

A plant's scent is derived from its essential oils and they can even help it with pollination, protect it from environmental hazards and provide many other vital functions.

It seems both plants and human beings rely on the properties of essential oils in different ways...

How do I use essential oils?

Essential oils have amazing holistic healing properties. I've been turning to them for years now and am a firm believer in their many uses and benefits.

I personally use my Essential Oils in 2 different ways:

  • Application to the skin
  • Inhalation

When applying to the skin, it's important to mix the essential oils with a carrier oil like our Natural Aromas Fractionated Coconut Oil. They're quite potent in their undiluted form and may cause a reaction.

To inhale the natural aromas exuded from essential oils, you can make a steam  bath with a few drops added in or set up an oil burner and follow the instructions on the essential oil packaging. A humidifier or diffuser is going to be your best bet though. We have a super stylish LED Dark Wood Diffuser in the shop at the moment. It would make a great gift for an essential oil beginner.
